The College of Nursing at SUNY Upstate Medical University is the only nursing program in the region that is part of an academic medical university. There are only 134 such universities in the nation, and just one in Central New York. The College of Nursing began offering bachelor's and master's degrees in 1984 and currently has the following advanced education programs for RNs: 

• Bachelor of Science - RN to BS
• Doctor of Nursing Practice - BS to DNP, MS to DNP
• Post Graduate Advanced Certificate - PNP, FNP, FPMHNP, AGNP-PC tracks
• Master of Science - AGNP-PC, PNP, FNP, FPMHNP tracks (not currently accepting new students)
